How to Create a Discord Account
Below, we'll walk you through how to create a Discord account and cover a few safety settings to help protect your account from scams.

Step 1

To begin, you will first navigate to discord.com, which will open up a registration page. You’ll need to enter your personal information and complete a required captcha process.
You’ll then see a prompt to create your own server. You can ignore that for now by clicking the X in the top right-hand corner.

Claim your account

Next, to claim your account, you will need to check the email that you signed up with. You should have received a verification email from Discord. Within that email, click “Verify Email.”
Claiming your account will ensure that you keep your username and discriminator (which is the four digits next to your user name), as well as have the ability to join specific types of servers.

Verify your email

The “Verify Email” button will open a new browser window confirming your email verification. Click “Continue to Discord” to open up your new account.

Discord Security Settings

Now that you’ve created your account, we recommend verifying your phone number to add one extra layer of security and authenticity to your account. You can do so within your user settings. To access your user settings, click on the gear on the bottom left-hand corner of your screen (next to your username).

Verify Phone Number

Click “Add” to the right of the “Phone Number” section to begin the phone number verification process.
Once pressed, you’ll be able to directly enter your phone number. Please be sure to select the correct country code, and click “Send.”
You’ll then receive a text message on your mobile device, which will have a 6 digit code. Type these 6 digits into the pop-up window.
To complete the phone number verification process, you will need to re-enter your password. Click “Confirm,” and you’ll be all set.

2-Factor Authentication

Last but not least, we will walk you through how to set up two-factor authentication in your Discord account, which is arguably the most important step. This will help protect you from scams and hacks. To begin, click the User Settings button in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
Beneath your account information in the “My Account” tab, you’ll see a Password and Authentication section. Click “Enable Two-Factor Auth.”
You’ll be prompted to enter your password to begin the enablement. Click “Continue” once you have done so.
Next, Discord will prompt you to download either Authy or Google Authenticator to continue. Both of these are trusted apps that create a new 6-digit verification code every time you log in. Based on your personal preference, download the desired app and connect your Discord account to receive the 6 digit code in-app. Enter the code in the pop-up window and click “Activate” to complete the process.

Success!

2FA has now successfully been activated. Discord will ask you if you would like to enable SMS Authentication as well as download your backup codes. We recommend doing both for the safety of your account.
